Longarm Quilting Services

Do you love to piece and applique quilts but don't love to quilt your project or don't have a long arm machine to create beautiful edge-to-edge designs on your quilts? Let PHQ do that for you.

We use an Innova Longarm machine with an Autopilot computer on a 12-foot frame. The Innova offers state of the art design precision and exquisite stitch quality.

We have a wide selection of edge-to-edge designs to fit the motif of your quilt. A lot of time goes into finishing a beautiful quilt top, so we take great care to ensure that your quilt top is completed with beautifully stitched quilt designs.

If you do not see a design you like, visit Urban Elementz or your favorite edge-to-edge designer for lots of other options. We will split the cost with you on any new edge-to-edge designs that we do not already stock. The file type required for our Innova is a .PAT file extension. Include the site name and design description where you found the alternative design in the Special Instructions box on the order form. Please keep in mind that some of the designs you may find while searching online are corners or individual blocks and would not be available for edge-to-edge.

As fellow quilters, we understand the time and effort put into your treasured quilt. We will secure your quilt in our non-smoking, pet-free studio in a cool, dry place. We will send you an email to confirm your quilt's receipt with a photograph to confirm that it arrived in good condition.

At PHQ, we are happy to walk you through the selection process. Choices related to thread color and batting will depend on the finished quilt's overall expected look and its intended use. If you want the piecing to be the focal point, you may want to choose a neutral color to add texture without drawing the eye away from the piecing.

Edge to Edge Designs

The cost is calculated based on the size of your quilt.  Multiply the length of your quilt by the width in inches. This number will be multiplied by $.02 per square inch to calculate the longarm cost.

Quilt Top and Backing Preparation Checklist

Below are things to consider when preparing your quilt top for edge to edge quilting.

  • The quilt should be well pressed
  • Use a safety pin to identify the top edge of the quilt top and quilt backing
  • Trim all loose threads from the front and back of the quilt
  • If you choose to prewash the quilt top, also prewash the backing to assure the best result
  • The quilt top and backing should be separate. Do not baste or join the layers in any way before shipping the quilt
  • The customer's batting should be at least 4 inches longer and wider than the quilt top on all four sides and be in one piece. You may also purchase the batting and have it shipped to my location. I also offer Pellon 80/20 batting at $.30 per linear inch.
  • I will attach the quilt to the longarm at the top, bottom, and sides. This means the backing fabric must be at least 8 inches longer and wider than the quilt top and free of selvages. Also, assure your backing is square.
  • The order form will include the option to have the quilt trimmed at no extra cost.
  • Assure that the borders are not wavy and that there are no puckers or fullness in the quilt. Excessive fullness may result in quilt top corners not being square. We cannot guarantee that fullness, puckers, and tucks in the quilt's borders or back will not be sewn in.
  • Do not add embellishments such as buttons, beads, or bows to your quilt until the longarm quilting is completed.
